Two Types of Hiyayakko Tofu (Cold Tofu) 冷奴2種

Japanese follows English. 英語の後に日本語が続きます。

These are two types of hiyayakko (i.e., cold tofu), a Japanese dish made with cold tofu and toppings. As you may know, the hiyayakko tofu is topped usually with katsuobushi, grated ginger and chopped green onion, but that's not filling enough for my husband!! So, I topped tofu for him with tomatoes, and grilled bell peppers and eggplants, seasoned with sesame oil and soy sauce (1st photo) while for me, who can't eat a lot in summer, I topped smaller tofu with only spring onion and wakame seaweed.

The key to hiyayakko tofu is to drain the water from tofu (for about 30 minutes in my case) before topping.

冷奴2種です。夏に食欲が落ちる私にとってはあっさり版(2枚目)がいいのですが、いまだ成長期の主人😁にとってはあっさりしすぎ。そこで食べ応えをあげるために焼き野菜を追加しました。
